Improving Asthma by Protecting from Road Pollution

You are here: Home / Residential Air Conditioning / Improving Asthma by Protecting from Road Pollution

The Problem

Mr and Mrs B. were having renovation works carried out on their newly purchased four bedroom, semi-detached 1920’s cottage in the Surrey countryside. However, the busy A3 road less than 50m away was causing concern: Mrs B. had recently been diagnosed with severe asthma, a serious and chronic respiratory condition. Her symptoms were debilitating and triggered by pollution, dust, pollen, carbon monoxide and traffic fumes. She needed high strength medication and had to sleep with the windows closed even in summer.

In addition, the family needed a new heating system to replace the old radiators. Air conditioning would be a happy bonus.

The Solution

One 14kW Ingenious Air System, paired with an energy-efficient heat pump, was retro-fitted during renovation works prior to moving in.  This one system provides heating, air conditioning and air purification. The air purification cleans the air thoroughly before it is breathed in. It removes the airborne triggers of Mrs B’s asthma: toxic pollutants, allergens and disease-causing bacteria and viruses.

Discreet white air outlets in the ceiling replaced the old radiators. These complement the interior design, free up floor and wall space and keep temperatures comfortable and even.

Follow Up

Within days of moving in Mrs B. enjoyed a marked improvement in health and well-being: her asthma symptoms significantly improved, and she no longer needs to take medication whilst at home.

The family has told us that they have bought an independent air quality monitor, which shows they are living in a healthier indoor environment. The Highways Agency has contributed towards the cost of the air purification, due to the proximity and pollution caused by the main road.
