Prevent the Infections to Reduce the Antibiotics
The UK’s five-year plan to fight the urgent global threat of antibiotic resistance is all over the news today. The overuse of antibiotics is making infections harder to treat and causing thousands of deaths a year through drug-resistant superbugs.
The government’s plan aims to control and contain antimicrobial resistance – drug resistance in bacteria, viruses, parasites and other infections – by 2040, and reduce the use of antibiotics in humans by 15% over the next five years.
This is essential, because since 2014 the UK has cut antibiotic use by more than 7%, but drug-resistant bloodstream infections still increased by 35% from 2013 to 2017.
The implications of this are significant. Health Secretary Matt Hancock, will say today: “Antimicrobial resistance is as big a danger to humanity as climate change or warfare. That’s why we need an urgent global response.”
So, what to do next?
Well, the government focus is on changing the change the way it funds drug companies. It is increasing efforts to cut unnecessary use of the drugs.
However, an easier and more proactive method is to reduce the number of antibiotics required by preventing infections being contracted in the first place.
This can be done by preventing infection-causing bacteria from causing infections:
Ingenious Probiotics, powered by Provilan, create an environment where health-enhancing micro-organisms called ‘good’ bacteria (probiotics) keep the ‘bad (health-damaging) bacteria in line.
The Ingenious Air Probiotic Diffuser is a recently launched, automated dispenser that continually distributes billions of health-enhancing, natural probiotics into the room air.
These health-enhancing, natural probiotics gently coat and cover all hard and soft surfaces with a protective layer of human-friendly microflora. They clean and safeguard skin, hard surfaces, soft furnishings, privacy curtains, beds, key boards and door handles and areas that are difficult to reach or to keep clean.
The probiotics are dispensed in huge quantities. This allows them to overwhelm and crowd out the infection causing ‘bad’ bacteria and deprive them of the food and space needed to survive.
This restores and maintains microbial balance and provides a long-lasting environmental cleanliness that reduces infections and promotes good health.
The diffuser is ideal for large spaces and public areas such as hospitals, offices, hotels, schools, gyms, health facilities and communal washrooms.
Probiotics can also be added to ventilation, heating and air conditioning systems duct work for delivery directly into the airstream.
