World Asthma Day

You are here: Home / Indoor Air Quality / World Asthma Day

The UK’s asthma death rate has been ranked among the worst in Europe. The news has been revealed today on World Asthma Day.

Research has revealed that in the past 5 years there has been a rise of 20% in deaths related to asthma. This rise makes the UK the 4th worst in Europe, closely after Estonia, Spain and Cyprus. Compared to the EU average, the UK is around 50% higher.

Asthma is a long-term condition which currently has no cure. Common symptoms include tightening of the chest, breathlessness, wheeziness and coughing. These symptoms are triggered by dust mites, pet dander, pollen, cigarette smoke and other pollutants, in any environment, including homes and workplaces.

Currently, over 5 million people suffer from asthma in the UK, including a high percentage of children. Many believe that asthma should not be treated as high risk as it’s not a serious condition, but this is couldn’t be further from the truth.

Experts believe a lack of basic checks has led to hundreds of deaths in the UK, with 66% of cases being preventable. But, are the NHS solely responsible for not providing better front line asthma services?

Perhaps a solution would be reducing the need of hospital care by eliminating asthma at the core; preventing the symptoms. This can be achieved by the Ingenious Air® System; an intelligent climate control system that has an optional high specification air purification module. It removes VOCs and other harmful pollutants that are naked to the eye. It also removes disease-causing viruses and bacteria, allergens, dust and odours.

Additionally, the system can add up to 100% outside air ventilation with heat recovery ventilation. This can further improve air quality and save energy. At the same time, it provides a safe and comfortable indoor environment with clean, purified air.

Backed by years of experience, research and development, various case studies and installed in trusted brands such as Apple, Subway, Pandora and more, Ingenious Air continues to save the planet – one system at a time.
